Dec 31

I am a DUI attorney, and the equivalent things occur at the equivalent time each year. At certain instances of the year I can expect an increase in phone calls to my office for help out with a DUI citation. And I can look ahead to it without fail. When are these moments? If you stated the celebrations, you are correct.

Why are more people getting DUIs around the celebrations? There are a pair of reasons. First, extra people are DUI. Second, the cops are on high alert to stop and detain individuals fro DUI at this moment of year. Why does this take place? Let’s think about it a little bit.

First, with regard to more individuals driving drunk during the holidays, let’s just reflect about this occasion of year – Thanksgiving and Christmas. What do these two festivities, like most holidays, require? You are right, visiting with friends and relations, sharing dinner (and drinks) and celebrating another magnificent year about to end. There are Christmas celebrations in large numbers, both with pals and with coworkers, and the drinks are frequently flowing pretty forcefully.

And how do you get to and from these festivities? If you thought a cab or designated driver you are a lot extra sensible than most of the individuals I know. I reflect it may be because these festivities tend to get over at a respectable hour that people think they will be okay to drive home. And they are all right until they are pulled over by that cop looking for individuals just like them.

Which leads me to my second reason there are added DUI arrests around the celebrations – the police are out in force searching for people. A good illustration of this here is any day that includes partying with pals. In Seattle there are two very big days for this – the Fourth of July, and SeaFair, a boating competition where a lot of individuals are out on the lakes surrounding Seattle having a great time.

The police know individuals are out boozing with pals at lakes, at campsites, at their homes, and don’t regularly ponder about receiving back home when the party is over. Because, and on some level this is true, the cops want the streets to be safe and sound for everyone, they customarily increase their levels of patrol during these occasions to make sure individuals aren’t driving around drunk. This is terrific if you are stone cold sober driving around, but any aroma of beer on your breath, whether you are driving under the influence or not, is probably going to get you arrested (although these are the instances I as a Seattle DUI attorney love to fight).

So, this year during the festivities play it safe. Take a cab wherever you are going or have a person that can drive you around. After all, you don’t want to need to come and see a DUI attorney Seattle in a few weeks, do you?
