A Basic Tutorial to Blogging
Blogging, which comes from the expression web-logging, has become a widely popular behavior nowadays.
In the year 2009, is there really still a point in having to explain blogging? I doubt it. Most people know that blogging means. But to those who are unfamiliar with the expression: what is blogging? Blogging generally means having a personal diary online which one shares with the public. Some people create ten blog posts a day, others write a blog post every two months or so. In fact, millions and millions of people are blogging every day, and some are in fact, are making a decent living out of it.
Some inquire what is the appeal of that? Exhibitionism? It’s possible that to some that is the case. To others blogging gives the ability to share stories. To other it gives the ability to share work experiences as well as network: there are in fact professional blogs in basically every subject one can think of: cooking, internet marketing, cars classic cars, insurance, health, GPS satellites, personal computers, back pain, stomach pain, headaches, chronic fatigue and so on.
I have a friend with this type of a professional blog where he shares many lessons he discovers throughout his days (he is a manager). I have an additional friend that has a personal blog in which he shares personal anecdotes about his personal life and family (he has 3 toddlers at home: therefore, much to share). I have a friend that has a funny blog, where he share all the funny stories he hears of. I even have a friend with a photoblog where he shares a new – and beautiful – photo every single day. I also knew a someone who had a specialized version of a photo blog: he used to share pictures of all the meals he eats. Yes, the blogging arena is extremely diverse.
The point is that this new media offers alternatives that until long ago never existed. In other words, blogging in the 21st century new cousin of journalism. It enables anyone to open a personal computer, write a story, and basically become a journalist whose stories can in theory be read by millions. While this comes with a plenty responsibilities, it is also a great tool for free speech and freedom of information.
